DoorDash is a technology company that connects restaurants with hungry customers in their area. By facilitating delivery and pickup orders, DoorDash helps restaurants grow their takeout sales, reach new customers, and increase brand awareness online.

By listing your restaurant on DoorDash Marketplace, you can offer delivery without having to coordinate your own drivers and pickup without having to invest in building your own app. DoorDash also allows merchants to opt in to marketing promotions, such as Try Me Free, $0 Delivery, and more to help your restaurant reach new customers and encourage lapsed customers to order again. Finally, you can also build a loyalty program with DashPass, a consumer subscription program that restaurants can opt into to increase visibility and sales with high frequency delivery customers. 

The easiest way to check if DoorDash is available in your area is to begin the self-signup process. You will be instantly notified whether your region is serviced by DoorDash. If we do service your area, continue through the self-signup. If we do not service your area, we will notify you when that changes.

Delivery

Food delivery has been growing in popularity in recent years, and that trend is only accelerating. A recent report predicted that by 2021, nearly 50 million people will use a food delivery app in the U.S. DoorDash reaches 80% of U.S. consumers, which means your restaurant will be seen by a wide range of demographics from millennials to baby boomers, and can open doors to new opportunities like catering services.

The default delivery radius is ~5 miles. However, restaurants can opt in to expand their delivery radius by opting in to a higher commission structure and switching to distance-based pricing. 

We work hard to provide the best experience for our community of Dashers, customers and merchants. All Dashers are 18 years or older and undergo a background check. We also provide details on how Dashers can navigate the app to complete deliveries, and we share tips from high-performing Dashers when they sign up. As a merchant, you can rate your Dasher and your overall delivery experience in the DoorDash Merchant Portal. With this input from Merchants, we can help ensure the best experience for our restaurant partners and consumers.

If your menu changes, you can easily use the Menu Editor tool in the Merchant Portal, adding new items, modifiers, and options, editing categories, prices, and names, temporarily deactivating items, removing items permanently, or updating modifier settings. If you have a shared menu, or a menu that spans across multiple locations, you will only be able to make edits from an account with Admin or Manager access. 

You can also make quick edits from the Merchant Tablet, such as clicking a button to 86 an item or update the price of an item, if you need to make a menu change in the middle of a lunch or dinner rush. 

If you have trouble updating your menu, you can submit a Menu Update Request on the Help tab in the Merchant Portal. Our Menu Specialist team will complete updates within 72 hours. 

If your restaurant uses a POS integration, you will need to change your DoorDash menu directly from the POS system. 

Yes, DoorDash partners can pause orders at any time. If your restaurant uses a tablet, you can pause your store from collecting orders for a specific time period. You can also indicate that your store is busy, letting customers know to expect longer prep times.

Yes, you can set specific store hours to accept DoorDash orders in the Merchant Portal. Easily assign daily store hours to the menus (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.) you will be accepting at that time. You can also set special hours for closures, special events, or holidays, and pause receiving orders within the Business Hours section of the Merchant Portal. 

Pricing

While there is no fee to join the DoorDash Marketplace, we take a commission rate on all orders, which varies based on delivery or pickup, the number of restaurant locations listed, whether your restaurant has opted in to DashPass, and more. DoorDash charges a commission fee in order to cover expenses that keep your delivery and pickup business running, including completing background checks for Dashers, providing occupational accident insurance for Dashers, covering credit card processing fees, providing 24/7 customer support, and running marketing campaigns to drive more customers to your listing.

DoorDash does not charge an activation fee or any hidden fees. However, certain fees may be applicable for additional products or services as you opt in, such as: 

  • Tablet fees 
  • Merchant promotion fees

No. Card processing fees are not charged in addition to commission rates. 

Getting Started

New restaurants can sign up for DoorDash by completing this form, where you'll share basic information about your business and upload your menu. Next, you'll set up your order protocol to receive DoorDash orders by email, fax, or tablet. An onboarding specialist will then contact you with instructions to begin receiving DoorDash orders.

The signup process varies for each restaurant but typically takes between 3-5 business days.

We’ll help you set up each location to receive DoorDash orders and give you admin access to see analytics for all of your locations.  

When you sign up for DoorDash, you can choose your order protocol to determine whether to receive orders via email, fax or your tablet. You can also use a DoorDash tablet for a fee, or integrate with your POS system to have orders flow directly to your register or kitchen.

New DoorDash partners can sign up for a free trial, paying no commission fees and no tablet fees for a short period of time. 

After your free trial, you’ll be enrolled at the commission fees and tablet fees indicated in your Merchant Signup Sheet.  

You can opt out of your free trial at any time. Reference this resource to learn how. 

Merchant partners can either choose to receive a weekly direct deposit from DoorDash or opt in to daily payouts at no charge.
